Louis Vuitton’s resort 2017 collection was staged in Rio de Janeiro at Brazil’s Contemporary Art Museum, designed by architect Oscar Niemar. Artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière’s designs were influenced by not only the tropical scenery of Brazil, but also by Niemar’s work. The show opened with a selection of slashed dresses featuring a colorful mix-match of eye-catching prints. For outerwear, Ghesquière created parkas and capes from parachute fabrics and sleek leather jackets with sculpted shoulders. Mini dresses were embellished with ruffles for a feminine touch.

“Being able to show a fashion collection in such an architecturally powerful space is a sensorial experience. In Rio de Janeiro, what I saw most of all was movement and an explosive energy that lives somewhere between modernism and tropicality. I was fascinated by the constant duality between nature and urbanism and the pictorial explosion it creates,” Ghesquière reveals in the show notes.

Selena Gomez Stars in Her First Louis Vuitton Campaign

Fashion Trends

Louis Vuitton has tapped Selena Gomez as its newest campaign star. Selena is seen posing alongside a model gang for the Louis Vuitton Series 5 fall 2016 campaign, perfectly embodying the brand’s modern spirit.

Selena Gomez for Louis Vuitton Series 5 Fall 2016 Campaign

The 23-year-old popstar is the latest face for the label under Nicolas Ghesquière, ever since her first pose with the designer on a cover ofVogue Brasil a month ago. Gomez posted a picture of the cover on her Instagram as well, foreshadowing, “Exciting things coming with this brilliant man.” This caused for followers to begin guessing that this photo boded a future campaign between Gomez and Louis Vuitton. And now we’re happy to say they were correct!

The photos that have been released to Instagram and Twitter so far are part of the LV Series 5 campaign. The decision to cast Gomez as the leading star is totally grounded in her relationship with the brand, even before the close-quartered Vogue cover was shot.

Gomez has always had an apparent love for the luxury label, as she has recently been spotted at various formal and red carpet events (as well as each and every stop of her “Revival” tour to date) sporting looks from the brand. Even more notably, and recently, Gomez wore a total Vuitton ensemble.

Even despite wearing the brand, the pop singer has been present in the front row at the past four runway shows. So if there was any doubt in your mind as to why she would have been chosen for Louis Vuitton’s fall 2016 campaign, it should be gone now!

So far, five images from the campaign have been released to social media by both Gomez and Ghesquière. From what we can see, the clothes and overall shoot is sophisticated, with youthful modernity coming into the fun patterns and bright colors, among other things.

The first image released in relation to the campaign, for instance, is overpowered by a very large fur trapper hat. Aside from that is a crop top and oversized, fur-trimmed leather jacket, so there are a lot of powerful elements in this photo, and they are complemented by Gomez’s imposing, statuesque demeanor.

Thanks to this campaign, we’re really seeing the mature, high-fashion side that Gomez is turning to. As the new face of a luxury label, and with her journey wearing Vuitton at high fashion events, we have seen her emerge from her label as a Disney star.

Even aside from Vuitton, just her walk with luxury fashion on her tour in general has shown her new, high-fashion makeover self wearing names like Monse and Rodarte while out on the road.

Gomez is the most striking name and face of this campaign, which was shot by photographer Bruce Weber, but it also features models Erika Linder, Jean Campbell, Natalie Westling, and Rianne Van Rompaey.

With these initial images setting a precedent to the rest of the campaign, we can only imagine that the rest of the photos will have this intense level of sophistication from the models and the structure of the garments, with some great layers of fun and youthfulness popping out here and there.

The newest Bond girl in the movie “Spectre”, no other than French actress Lea Seydoux is the chosen face of Louis Vuitton’s Pre-Fall 2016 Spirit of Travel Campaign. For this colorful ad campaign, the French luxury fashion house featured its latest handbags such as the Capucines and Steamer tote bags.

The Capucines bag is a dream come true for women who loves big and bold colors. The splash of fuchsia color paired with the luxurious crocodile skin is a fashion statement that makes all the difference, especially if you pair it over monochromatic ensembles such as black or white. Looking closely, one can notice that the interlocking LV logo in front finishes the extravagant look to it.

The Steamer bag on the other hand is quite new, released in the bag industry not too long ago. We have previously featured this bag: Louis Vuitton City Steamer Tote Bag. A beautiful and well-structured tote, the Steamer bag from Louis Vuitton is a divine perfection. For the Pre-Fall 2016 Ad Campaign, the Steamer got a facelift that it deserves which is appropriate for the coming fall with the combination of salmon pink, black and somewhat dark violet colors. It has a nametag, a hot-stamped LV circle and the engraved golden padlock for an added luxurious feel.

Fashion Trends

IMAGE: LOUIS VUITTON

It’s early days yet before Louis Vuitton’s Fall-Winter 2016 Mens collection is upon us, but a sneak peek never hurt anyone, right? And because I’ve been the studying the press kit intently for everyone’s sake here, here’s what I know.

As far as bags and SLGs go, there are 3 main pillars for the season, Monogram Illusion(shown above), Monogram Eclipse (which you’ll see later in the post) and Camouflagepieces, which I’ve already featured a couple days back.

Then there are all the accessories, and there are many, from thin neck scarves to stoles to other bits and bobs from key holders to necklaces and sunglasses. The Volez,Voguex, Voyagez brooches are love, that Trousse Toilette in Monogram Eclipse is functional and that signet ring is something that’s definitely on my own wish list.

And like I mentioned earlier, this is just a quick sneak peek, so there will definitely be more updates in the weeks to come. In case you’re wondering though, that ‘trunk’ you see in the first image is actually a tool box. More specifically, a mini tool box that comes with a shoulder sling as well. Kim Jones’ take on the Petite Malle for the guys? #mindblown

As promised, here’s a peek at a new bag from the F/W16 collection, the Monogram Eclipse Backpack Explorer that’s part-backpack, part-tote and all butch. Butch because well, it’s definitely for the more manly amongst you, the 44 cm by 30 cm by 16 cm backpack that’s big enough for you to lug around the kitchen sink and then some. No word on the price yet, but if you prefer something ‘cleaner’, the Backpack Explorer will also come in Taiga Mat, a new take on the traditional Taiga leather that’s touted to be lighter and more matte. Haven’t seen either yet in person, so expect more updates to come.

We’re almost there.

Louis Vuitton is about to release the Monogram Collection, but before that, they want you to see Julia Nobis’s latest Ad Campaign.

Not too long ago, we wrote an extensive article about the Monogram Iconoclasts Collection and we shared the entire history. But it’s basically a limited series of Monogram Accessories designed by the six world-class renowned designers – Karl Lagerfeld, Frank Gehry, Cindy Sherman, Marc Newson, Christian Louboutin and Rei Kawakubo.

And it’s not just another release, this one is special as you will see handbags crafted from artist that has gathered inspiration and experience around the world.

The most notable is Karl Lagerfeld’s punching bag collection. It also features the Monogram Punching Trunk and though the prices haven’t been published yet, we know it’s going to be expensive.

Okay, let’s drop some information. Ahum, the New York Times Magazine estimated the price to be around $175,000 USD. Yes, you heard it right!

But back to Julia Nobi’s Monogram Collection Ad Campaign, it’s a very personal thing. You see, she is spotted taking a selfie picture while carrying the Monogram Travel Shoulder Bag.

She is also featured with Cindy Sherman’s Monogram Studio Trunk in a messy room, Julia is lying on the couch and playing with her parrot.

Then another picture showed her face painted like a clown, with her eyes closed and sitting on the Monogram Studio Trunk (folded) and holding the Monogram Tote Bag.

So what do you think? Would you get one?
