Straight out of the Miho Museum outside the city of Kyoto, Japan, Nicolas Ghesquiere’s genius floated through the air with his latest Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 Runway Bag Collection. The collection is nothing but a riveting homage to Japanese culture with which Ghesquiere has fell in love with. Others described it as his open love letter to Japan and this is more than evident with what we’ve seen in the runway.

Featuring unique designs that are suffused and imbued with Japan’s trademarks such as the colorful dresses of kabukis and geishas, the tenacious lifestyle of the samurais, and the cutesy and quirky style of the Kawaii, the bag collection is indeed a pleasant surprise to many. It is in fact a collaboration between Nicolas Ghesquire and Kansai Yamamoto, a world-renowned Japanese designer.

You can see that there are Louis Vuitton’s classics and cult favorites gracing the collection. The Petite Malle, the Speedy and a new flap bag all in Monogram Canvas and Monogram reverse prints are unstoppable with their refined grace, injected with quirky and offbeat designs such as a kabuki taking a peek with her curious eyes, traditional prints of fishermen, and Samurai armors to name a few.

We are also seeing a new bucket bag, which is inspired by traditional Japanese lanterns and several small hot box bags in different sizes, prints, and finish. What could we say? This collection is entirely an amalgam of all things quirky and fun.

No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. From Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2017 collection comes a selection of bags you can buy now, which amongst other pieces, includes this pair of Petite Malle bags that are love, love, love. More a statement piece than anything else because we all know how much they can actually hold, there’s no denying their allure. Their adorable size and shape inspired by the French luxury house’s trunk has also helped them become one of Louis Vuitton’s most iconic hits since Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière took over.

Priced at EUR3900 each (or USD5750 depending where in the world you are), there are no updates as to how much it will cost in Singapore for these puppies that measure 18 cm by 12 cm. Made of Epi leather that’s then embossed, you’ll find gold-tone hardware on the green and beige Tropical, while the Tropical Spike (the one that comes with mainly blue stripes) will come with silver-tone hardware.

Thieves Swipe $140,000 Worth of Handbags from Louis Vuitton Store in Brazil

Louis Vuitton News

Louis Vuitton debuted an expansive Cruise 2017 collection in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, earlier this week, but news out of the South American country wasn’t all positive for the French luxury brand. According to theNew York Times, the Vuitton store in Rio’s upscale Ipanema neighborhood was robbed Tuesday morning, only two days after the attention-grabbing show.

Reports indicate the thieves made off with over $140,000 in handbags in the early morning hours; no products from other categories were mentioned. For reference, that’s about 36 of the brand’s popular City Steamer bags, which retail at $3,850 for the medium size is smooth leather.

Brazilian authorities did not stipulate which bags were taken, but Vuitton had released a handful of Cruise 2017 bags for general purchase immediately after the show on Saturday. The bags are only available online in the US, but Vanessa Friedman of the NYT speculates that local excitement and attention over the show may have influenced the robbers, and the occasion certainly could have made a timely hit more attractive.

If you see any Louis Vuitton bag available from Brazilian sellers with prices that seem too good to be true, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
